Valerie Bryant, PhD. maintains a 25+ private psychotherapy practice in Fort Greene, Bklyn. 11205. As a former tenured academic for 20 years, I consult and supervise social workers, physicians, psychologists and nurse practitioners. I am on faculty at Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy (ICP) and Manhattan Institute for Psychoanalysis,(MIP) trauma programs, teaching Intergenerational and Sociocultural Transmission of Trauma and also, Recovery, Resilience and Beyond at MIP trauma program. I assist and support Somatic Experiencing faculty in helping trainees process trauma applying a somatic based approach.
Twenty five + years of clinical experience affords me an opportunity to develop expertise in childhood, developmental and complex trauma. I use a creative range of different modalities: Somatic Experiencing, EMDR, and psychoanalytic talking therapy.
I use an interactive and personalized approach to conduct short and long-term therapy with individuals, and enjoy working with adolescents. My personal philosophy embraces creativity and open dialogue. By opening channels of silence, we can find solace, tranquility and voice in becoming all of whom we aspire to be.
I meditate daily and attend week long silent retreats. I am committed to exploring the intersectionality of race, gender, ethnicity, social class, sexual orientation and culture.
I will co-coordinate a 2021 Somatic Experience trauma program in NYC specifically for African-Americans.
